One and Two Day Wine Tasting Trips
One day trip wine tasting trip:
Surrounded by lush vineyards, this vibrant little town has a spectacular backdrop of sandstone spires. Climb St. Nicholas Hill to see the ruins of Despot Slav’s fortress, visit the Kordulopova Kushta once home to wealthy wine merchants and finish off the day with a tour and tasting at one of the area’s finest wineries.
Price: 45€ per person (minimum group 2) price includes the transport & entry into the Kordupolova Kushta and the wine tasting at Villa Melnik. (lunch optional extra)
Departs Bansko daily 9 am
The two day wine tasting trip is as follows:
Day 1: Depart from Bansko 10am. Visit the village of Illindentsi where a boutique winery is hidden away. After a tour of the winery, there is a lavish lunch with wine tasting. The owner is the grandson of the winery’s founder is proud to share his memories and experience of his wine-making journey. He specializes in producing high quality wines in small series of between 300 and 3000 bottles. Continue on to Melnik and check in to the beautiful renaissance style guest house, Lumparova Kushta. In the evening, there’s a tasting of wines from a local vinyard before heading into town for dinner.
Day 2: Morning visit to the Kordupolova House and wine cellars. This was the former home of a Greek wine merchant and is now an ethnographical museum. The house was donated to the town after the son and heir was killed fighting for Bulgarian freedom from the Turks. We then leave Melnik to visit the nearby Rozhen monastery, one of the best preserved medieval Bulgarian monasteries still working today. Lunch in the village Rozhen with the option of tasting wines from their own nearby vinyard. Afternoon tour and tasting at Villa Melnik winery, a family-owned vinyard that continues a tradition of vine-growing and wine-producing with over two centuries of history. Return to Bansko, estimated arrival time 6pm
Price 135 Euros per person, there is a single supplement of 10 Euros (Price includes transport, overnight accommodation, breakfast, all wine tastings and lunch on day 1 but not evening meal or lunch on day 2. Although as yet no one has ever been hungry enough to want an evening meal!)
